Children can do things that seem very disconcerting to the
adults around them. They often do not
know why they do what they do.
Sometimes their actions or
feelings can make it very difficult or even impossible for them to function at
school, at home or with their peers.
When I work with children, I bring to the encounter both a technical
knowledge of development and an intuitive understanding of the individual. The sessions are likely to involve art or
play materials so that the child can relax in a safe setting and begin to
reveal that which is troubling them.
Problems can range from nervousness, fears
that seem unfounded, trouble sleeping, problems with elimination, unbridled
expressions of rage, anger and/or defiance at home or at school, difficulty
separating from parents, academic problems and low self esteem. Often the
sessions will involve family members. The therapy will often also involve contact with school personnel.
