Adolescents are constantly
undergoing change and transformation. This can be a time of enormous turmoil
and emotional instability that requires us to constantly adjust how we
communicate and relate to them.
In my work with adolescents, I
attempt to enter their world so that I can understand their experiences and
difficulties from the context of their perspective. I hold a safe and
secure space for them to express and begin to understand the often conflicting
and perplexing emotions and feelings that are overwhelming them.
Through this process, they begin to
find ways to accommodate these novel experiences. The therapy
process may involve working with school personnel and family members as well so
that the adolescent can begin to function effectively in their various
environments.
